In 1955, two Georgia neighbors opened up a restaurant that would change the world. Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner were living in Avondale Estates, GA, when they decided to open a 24-hour, sit-down restaurant for their friends and neighbors, focused on people on both sides of the counter. I grew up in Charlotte, NC, and was lucky enough to have Pasta & Provisions in my neighborhood. As a child I was amazed by the fact that when you stopped by, you always saw people making things. This wasn’t food made by machines in a drab factory somewhere far away. It was made with a lot of pride by people in my neighborhood. I moved to Boone to attend Appalachian State, and started working at Stick Boy Bread Company. I noticed many of the same things that I had seen at Pasta & Provisions-that same commitment to quality, from the ingredients to the methods to caliber of the staff. It seemed logical that a town that loved pastries and great bread could use a pasta shop! Next came sandwiches, craft beer, and fine wine. I thought everything was set….until the space next door to us became available. A casual mention to two friends who had been thinking of opening a brewery led to us becoming the tasting room for Booneshine Brewing Company. On July 1, 2015 we poured the first pint of Booneshine IPA! Booneshine has since moved on to a much larger space, needing more room to produce fresh craft beer.

For over 50 years, Dan’l Boone Inn has been serving Boone and the high country delicious homecooked meals, just like you remember at grandma’s house. Our family style meals begin with a salad in the summer and soup in the winter. Three meats and five vegetables are served along with biscuits, preserves, dessert and beverage. A full family style breakfast is served on Saturdays and Sundays.

Dan’l Boone Inn has recently been honored by both Southern Living Magazine and Our State Magazine for our country cuisine. The Manor House Estate was the elegant home of J. Luther Snyder, the most famous of Chetola’s owners. Snyder purchased Chetola Estate in 1926. Also known as “the Coca Cola King of the Carolinas,” Snyder’s wife held frequent celebrations and parties that were the talk of Blowing Rock in the 1930s and 1940s.

On July 28, 2012, Chetola officially opened Timberlake’s Restaurant in the historical building, with a menu inspired by world-renowned North Carolina artist and designer Bob Timberlake’s culinary favorites. Four Sisters Bakery is happy to be part of the wonderful community in Black Mountain, and provide home baked goods to our neighbors and those visiting our wonderful town.  Our connection to the Red Rocker Inn guarantees the  quality that you have come to expect over the years.

When Dorothy and Krista met over the summer of 2018, they had two things in common right off the bat: the love of baking and being from families of four sisters. While not all the sisters work at the bakery, our sisters inspire us! The employees you will meet at the bakery may not all be biological sisters, but we are all adopted sisters in this life – as we like to say.

Welcome to Beech Mountain and Fred’s General Mercantile. We’re not only America’s highest General Mercantile at an elevation of 5049′, but we are located in Eastern America’s Highest Town at an elevation of 5506′.  Open 365 days a year, we are a store and a town devoted to serving the needs of visitors, skiers, snowboarders, summer folks, and locals alike.

Your vacation trip to the North Carolina High Country begins and ends at Fred’s. If you are of an age that you can remember how each small town or village always had a general store that served as the center of the community, you will especially enjoy our store with its vast variety of goods, for just about any need you may have.
