At Reid’s Café & Catering, we serve regional seafood, farm goods from our local friends, amazing coffee from Camp Roasters Coffee of Blowing Rock, as well as loose leaf teas and tisane from Bellocq Tea Atelier, with rustic handmade French pastries. We have all the things you need for lunch, dinner and in between–soups made to order, carefully crafted sandwiches, homemade sides and light, elegant salads, grilled whole fish, oysters on the half shell and hand crafted cocktails. Toward evenings, our emphasis on natural wines, sustainable, traditional, and with minimum chemical additives, compliment the Chefs’ choice of cured meats and cheeses. Reid’s Cafe features re-purposed barn wood, white concrete countertops from BDWG, tables from Big Oak Woodworks, succulent greenery and ferns by Callista Designs and LOVE. Colors are of dark sea and cloud, forest, stone, sky and sunset. The vivacious heart of the cafe resides in Jerry Cantwell’s paintings —exemplary compositions with colorways that resound and subject matter that is uncannily, but joyously soothing.

Paul had always dreamed of opening his own restaurant, and when he and Jocelyn discovered Banner Elk, and the recently renovated Eagles Nest Marketplace, they decided to take the plunge and open Bodegas. He has now turned his dream into a reality, and Bodegas is loved by locals and visitors alike.
Before we packed up and left our home in New York, we had been head chefs at two of the highest-rated restaurants in the Hamptons on the eastern end of Long Island, Robert’s in Watermill and World Pie in Bridgehampton. Yet, all the while that we were running our respective kitchens, we kept a small fire burning for the dream of opening our own idea of a great restaurant someday. Our plan was to find the most promising, picturesque town in the country, where the people were varied, smart, good-looking, and hungry for the kind of genuine culinary thing we do.

Boone Saloon was born from a desperate need for a watering-hole that was geared for full grown adults. Sure the college kids would come – we are a college town after all. But, we needed a comfortable, clean place where conversation was revered, quality service and food was appreciated, and style was a heavy consideration.
We started with an old white oak tree that we carved out to be the 25 foot, live edge, bar. Then we tore down all the sheetrock and drop ceilings, ripped up the carpet, and let the building show itself. Tim and Crystal Decker opened Smoky Mountain Bakers and Wood Fired Pizza in Roan Mountain, Tennessee in 2009. Family owned and operated, the couple took their artisan approach (refined for over a decade at their bakery in northern California) to create mouthwatering baked goods. Operating out of a renovated barn built in the mid-1900’s at the back of their property, Tim and Crystal offer a variety of specialty pastries made from scratch and fresh artisan breads and pizzas cooked in their wood fired brick oven, which was built by Tim with help from his sons and family friends.

In 1955, two Georgia neighbors opened up a restaurant that would change the world. Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner were living in Avondale Estates, GA, when they decided to open a 24-hour, sit-down restaurant for their friends and neighbors, focused on people on both sides of the counter. That first restaurant opened the door to create the Waffle House brand that you see today.
As this movement began to expand, new restaurants were built in Georgia as well as neighboring states, and the “Yellow Sign” soon became a familiar landmark along city streets and interstate highways across the country. Today, the Waffle House system is more than 1,900 locations in 25 states. All open 24-hours a day, seven days a week.

Hoppy Trout Brewing Company is a brewpub located in Andrews, NC. We opened New Year’s Day of 2016, so we were literally the first brewery to open in NC in 2016. All our beer is brewed on premise which we sell in our pub with some self distribution in immediate area. We brew 1 BBL(barrel) batches at a time, 31 gallons, which classifies us as a nano brewery. We also offer a full-service pizza restaurant featuring a handmade Sicilian style brick oven.
The small batch approach to beer production allows us to take risks with flavors. We are constantly rotating our tap list with new experimental beers as well as maintaining a few flagships we try to always keep on tap. There is nothing we won’t put in beer. We have used the hottest peppers in the world, Himalayan sea salt, and even cake batter. We do our best to source local ingredients when available. We give a local farmer all our spent grain to feed his pigs.
It feels these days that we are in a constant state of hurry. Almost every facet of our culture has an expedited version of it. We can buy shoes online and they arrive next day. Download a book instantaneously. Bills can be viewed and paid (or ignored) with the click of a button. Order a cheeseburger from a person on the other side of a machine and it’s ready in under two minutes (if the line is short enough). There are few aspects of our lives that have been untouched by this ever-present supply of immediate gratification.
So it is no great mystery that BBQ, the ritual of cooking with fire and smoke, is such a highly sought-after prize. It is the driving source of endless competitions, timeless arguments over what is right and what is wrong, and innumerable quests to find the “very best version.” It is a simple matter, putting a metal box or grate over some fire and letting smoke do its work. But there is more to bbq than just cooking meat. Wherever one finds it, behind that pulled pork, sliced brisket, and blistered sausages is a preparation that requires time, patience, and a tremendous amount of love. BBQ is untouched by the hurry of the world. Since the discovery of fire from our ancestors on down, very little has been touched and, as is the case with the best of it, the tradition has not been touched at all. What was once necessity has become the ultimate luxury. One can sit down at a bar or outside a shack or in their very own homes and enjoy a feast that took half a day to cook, a week to prepare, and a millennium to perfect.
Combining fire and smoke with the very best ingredients the vast American landscape has to offer is time well spent. For over 50 years, Dan’l Boone Inn has been serving Boone and the high country delicious homecooked meals, just like you remember at grandma’s house. Our family style meals begin with a salad in the summer and soup in the winter. Three meats and five vegetables are served along with biscuits, preserves, dessert and beverage. A full family style breakfast is served on Saturdays and Sundays.
