The Best Cellar Restaurant in Blowing Rock, North Carolina was established in 1975. The original location was in a basement on Main Street, where previous owners sold soups, sandwiches, and new and used books. The name was derived from the fact that the restaurant sold books in a basement, hence The Best Cellar. Bella’s is a friendly, cozy cafe serving made-from-scratch breakfasts, along with New York-style deli sandwiches for lunch, seven days a week in the heart of Banner Elk.

The country breakfast at Bella’s is made with cage-free eggs, locally-sourced meats and fresh organic produce. The breakfast menu also features Belgian waffles and an array of omelettes. Some noted items on lunch menu include: hot pastrami on pumpernickel rye, corned beef, roasted brisket sandwiches, Ruben sandwiches and homemade chili.

Maggie B’s is Weaverville’s first ever wine and specialty food store.   But, despite what most people think, Maggie B is not the owner. She is actually Elspeth and Andy’s 13-year old, yellow Labrador retriever. In her honor, we do offer dog parking outside, refreshments (water bowl), and doggie treats. So, if you’re just walking around downtown Weaverville, or getting ready to take your pooch on a hike, stop in and grab some treats for yourself and your four legged friend!

Maggie B’s sells wine, beer, meats, cheeses, wine accessories, and a little of everything else.  Sandwiches, salads, soup, and small plates are offered daily.  They also offer a great selection of wine and beer by the glass.  We carry wines from smaller vineyards that you are not going to find at the grocery store. This ritual of nourishment from farm to table is one that all Americans took part in until about 75 years ago.

To honor this tradition we follow a few simple rules as we prepare food for you. Whenever we can, we buy locally-grown, seasonal, organic produce and meats. We use farmers and farm cooperatives or family-run operations as our primary suppliers for our flowers, vegetables, fruits and herbs. We use feta and goat cheese from local creameries, brew Dynamite Roasting Company Coffee and carry local microbrews from around our region. We have a large garden that supplies us seasonally with fresh basil, edible flowers and herbs as well as greens, peppers, root vegetables and other produce. Every day we make homemade soups and breads for the day. You’ll also find homemade daily desserts from our FRESH chef’s and local confectioners’ creations. Each weekend we feature FRESH specials that highlight seasonal offerings from our local food purveyors and unique flavors of our chef’s culinary creativity.

At FRESH we offer an alternative to the processed food delivery system that has become the staple of the modern diet. The first Macado’s restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees.

Popular with the college crowd, the restaurant opened additional locations near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College. Locations were added at the rate of one or two per year, including those in neighboring West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Macado’s just recently opened its newest location in Winchester, Virginia.

The already-lengthy menu has been changed and expanded over the years, and several events have grown in popularity, such as the Macado’s Annual St. Patrick’s Day Party and the Macado’s Halloween Party. Loyal customers have made Macado’s part of their own traditions as well!

Classic, long-running fast-food chain known for its burgers, fries & shakes.

At Café Violette, Chef Kyle Martin has created a menu inspired by the Mediterranean coast of France. Food that is rooted in the tradition of French cuisine is often accompanied by the fresh flavors of the sea. This region is home to the oldest cities and ports in France and its food has been influenced by neighboring trading partners for centuries. The ingredients and spices from Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and North Africa can all be found in this area and are  incorporated into France’s rich culinary history.

The Manor House Estate was the elegant home of J. Luther Snyder, the most famous of Chetola’s owners. Snyder purchased Chetola Estate in 1926. Also known as “the Coca Cola King of the Carolinas,” Snyder’s wife held frequent celebrations and parties that were the talk of Blowing Rock in the 1930s and 1940s.

On July 28, 2012, Chetola officially opened Timberlake’s Restaurant in the historical building, with a menu inspired by world-renowned North Carolina artist and designer Bob Timberlake’s culinary favorites. The restaurant features three dining rooms, an intimate wine room and waterfront dining on the Patio. The charming and warmly outfitted Headwaters Pub is just inside Timberlake’s main entrance.

Bob Timberlake, who is known for creating things of exceptional artistry and imagination, used his deeply rooted love of food as the impetus behind the distinctive menu. From savory shrimp and salads of mountain-grown spinach, to pan-seared duck and roasted Carolina quail, each dish will be one worth savoring. Mouth-watering Angus bistro filets, seafood, poultry, vegetarian options and housemade desserts will also tempt palates of all tastes.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily, year-round in Timberlake’s Restaurant. In addition, you will find outstanding buffets on Mother’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and during special events such as Symphony by the Lake.

Chef and owner Mark Henegan has been in the restaurant industry for over 30 years. From his time at Il Buco in New York City he went on to open Madiba in Brooklyn in 1999 and then Madiba at MIST in Harlem in 2014. He has called North Carolina home since the early 2000s and have now created The Bush Farmhouse, his latest concept in South African inspired eating.

Paul Alcazar and Jocelyn Yost are the owners and operators of Bodegas, and you can often find one of them in the restaurant at any given time. Paul’s father was from Cuba, and Paul had a great love and appreciation for Cuban food while he was growing up. Paul had always dreamed of opening his own restaurant, and when he and Jocelyn discovered Banner Elk, and the recently renovated Eagles Nest Marketplace, they decided to take the plunge and open Bodegas. Thirteen Pennies Café is housed inside the Mountain Home Thrift Store. It
offers breakfast and lunch items while providing training and hands-on job experience for youth in the culinary arts training track of Black Mountain Home for Children’s Apprenticeship Program. The café is named for the first financial gift made to the ministry in 1904.

The café offers Black Mountain Home Roast coffee along with breakfast and lunch items such as loaded biscuits, French toast, sandwiches, paninis, and amazing baked goods. The café’s signature coffee, a Honduras roast, is a single-origin, direct trade, specialty grade coffee grown at elevation with an excellent cupping score of 86. Coffee sales benefit our kids at BMH as well as an orphanage in Honduras where the coffee is grown. Double your impact!

The food is our biggest passion. A twist on the ordinary, we are constantly looking for new trends. We don’t limit ourselves to a specific cuisine – we believe all the different cooking styles of the world are equally tasty. We also get a lot of inspiration from Food Network and places we travel to, in and out of the country. We take everyday classics and add a “twist” to make it unique to our style….. from classic southern recipies like the pimento cheese or mountain trout to classic American staples like burgers and Philly cheesesteaks.

Boone Saloon was born from a desperate need for a watering-hole that was geared for full grown adults. Sure the college kids would come – we are a college town after all. But, we needed a comfortable, clean place where conversation was revered, quality service and food was appreciated, and style was a heavy consideration.

We started with an old white oak tree that we carved out to be the 25 foot, live edge, bar. Then we tore down all the sheetrock and drop ceilings, ripped up the carpet, and let the building show itself. After we built the stage, built an outside covered deck and added our GameChanger Arcade we were ready to go.

Back in September of 2006, Ole & Elena Delatorre along with their 3 sons, Abraham, Alfredo and Daniel started renovating and old building that would become the family business. After 5 months of hard work it opened its doors to the public and was successful from day one. Thanks to the people of Black Mountain and all the visitors the business grew and expanded to a larger location in the same vicinity. Hard work, team work and dedication paid off.

konnichiwa was born of a desire to bring customers a taste of modern-day Japanese street food. We want people to think outside the bento box, try cultural favorites that are being served at the hottest corner spots in Tokyo. Or, make your meal the way you want it, using the Creation Station format to construct a custom dish of your liking. You can look forward to a continuously expanding menu along with limited time specials that will allow us to flex our culinary muscles.

Hatched as a grand idea between sets at a late night gig, musicians and former band mates Andy Gibbon and Josh Gibbs decided they should provide the Asheville area with truly delicious, locally roasted, organic coffee.

After rolling up their sleeves and hammering out a solid plan, they settled on the cozy, yet world-class town of Black Mountain, North Carolina as their base of operations. From their coffee bar/roasting facility set up in an incredibly inviting 1950’s craftsman style home, they are now making their coffee available to the world!

Amazingly fresh and delicious! Perfect for lunch or dinner. Everything is cooked to order, takes roughly ten minutes. This is a take out only place. I was home in 10 minutes and the food was still hot and delicious. The staff is friendly. The order was correct. If you get Fajitas, you may want to order more tortillas because you only get two with the meal.

It feels these days that we are in a constant state of hurry. Almost every facet of our culture has an expedited version of it. We can buy shoes online and they arrive next day. Download a book instantaneously. Bills can be viewed and paid (or ignored) with the click of a button. Order a cheeseburger from a person on the other side of a machine and it’s ready in under two minutes (if the line is short enough). There are few aspects of our lives that have been untouched by this ever-present supply of immediate gratification.

So it is no great mystery that BBQ, the ritual of cooking with fire and smoke, is such a highly sought-after prize. It is the driving source of endless competitions, timeless arguments over what is right and what is wrong, and innumerable quests to find the “very best version.” It is a simple matter, putting a metal box or grate over some fire and letting smoke do its work. But there is more to bbq than just cooking meat. Wherever one finds it, behind that pulled pork, sliced brisket, and blistered sausages is a preparation that requires time, patience, and a tremendous amount of love. BBQ is untouched by the hurry of the world. Since the discovery of fire from our ancestors on down, very little has been touched and, as is the case with the best of it, the tradition has not been touched at all. One can sit down at a bar or outside a shack or in their very own homes and enjoy a feast that took half a day to cook, a week to prepare, and a millennium to perfect.
