The Best Cellar Restaurant in Blowing Rock, North Carolina was established in 1975. The original location was in a basement on Main Street, where previous owners sold soups, sandwiches, and new and used books. The name was derived from the fact that the restaurant sold books in a basement, hence The Best Cellar. Over the years, the menu evolved from sandwiches and soups to the freshest of meats and seafood.

The Best Cellar prides itself on having provided its customers with the finest of food, wine, and service for 30 years. All dishes and desserts are prepared each day on site. Before we packed up and left our home in New York, we had been head chefs at two of the highest-rated restaurants in the Hamptons on the eastern end of Long Island, Robert’s in Watermill and World Pie in Bridgehampton.  Yet, all the while that we were running our respective kitchens, we kept a small fire burning for the dream of opening our own idea of a great restaurant someday.  Our plan was to find the most promising, picturesque town in the country, where the people were varied, smart, good-looking, and hungry for the kind of genuine culinary thing we do.

Our parents were born and raised in Cuba and unfortunately had to flee their beautiful homeland in 1960 when Castro’s communist regime came into power. They instilled in us their love for their Cuban culture and all that it encompassed–food, music, history, family.

Boone Saloon was born from a desperate need for a watering-hole that was geared for full grown adults. Sure the college kids would come – we are a college town after all. Paul Alcazar and Jocelyn Yost are the owners and operators of Bodegas, and you can often find one of them in the restaurant at any given time. Paul’s father was from Cuba, and Paul had a great love and appreciation for Cuban food while he was growing up. Paul had always dreamed of opening his own restaurant, and when he and Jocelyn discovered Banner Elk, and the recently renovated Eagles Nest Marketplace, they decided to take the plunge and open Bodegas. He has now turned his dream into a reality, and Bodegas is loved by locals and visitors alike.

Chef and owner Mark Henegan has been in the restaurant industry for over 30 years. From his time at Il Buco in New York City he went on to open Madiba in Brooklyn in 1999 and then Madiba at MIST in Harlem in 2014. He has called North Carolina home since the early 2000s and have now created The Bush Farmhouse, his latest concept in South African inspired eating.

Hoppy Trout Brewing Company is a brewpub located in Andrews, NC. We opened New Year’s Day of 2016, so we were literally the first brewery to open in NC in 2016. All our beer is brewed on premise which we sell in our pub with some self distribution in immediate area. We brew 1 BBL(barrel) batches at a time, 31 gallons, which classifies us as a nano brewery. We also offer a full-service pizza restaurant featuring a handmade Sicilian style brick oven.

The small batch approach to beer production allows us to take risks with flavors. We are constantly rotating our tap list with new experimental beers as well as maintaining a few flagships we try to always keep on tap. There is nothing we won’t put in beer. We have used the hottest peppers in the world, Himalayan sea salt, and even cake batter. We do our best to source local ingredients when available. We give a local farmer all our spent grain to feed his pigs.

Phil’s Bar-B-Que Pit… has been providing a place for friends and family to gather & enjoy quality bar-b-que in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Phil’s Bar-B-Que uses only the choicest cuts of meat, rubbed with our special blend of seasoning & slowly smoked with hickory hardwoods, served with your choice of our five homemade bar-b-que sauces.

This farm to table restaurant in downtown Banner Elk is the newest creation of chef Nicole Palazzo. It features a rotating menu of fresh, seasonal local foods paired with local and regional wines in a slightly upscale atmosphere. Typical menu items range from steaks and seafood to chicken, beef and sushi. Particular favorites are the North Carolina rainbow trout, blackened chicken tacos and roasted beet salad with fried goat cheese.

For over 50 years, Dan’l Boone Inn has been serving Boone and the high country delicious homecooked meals, just like you remember at grandma’s house. Our family style meals begin with a salad in the summer and soup in the winter. Three meats and five vegetables are served along with biscuits, preserves, dessert and beverage. A full family style breakfast is served on Saturdays and Sundays.

Dan’l Boone Inn has recently been honored by both Southern Living Magazine and Our State Magazine for our country cuisine. The restaurant placed third in Southern Living in the reader’s choice awards for country cooking restaurants. Opened in 2000 by Bernie & Joan Keele, the Keele’s spent their time making Storie Street Grille a hidden gem in the downtown village of Blowing Rock.

Storie Street Grille was purchased by Lela & Aaron Silver in 2018. We have spent the last few year’s building off the Keele’s success, while making it our own. Continuing the journey of a family run bistro that is focused on fresh local ingredients, NC spirits and exemplary service and hospitality.

I grew up in Charlotte, NC, and was lucky enough to have Pasta & Provisions in my neighborhood. As a child I was amazed by the fact that when you stopped by, you always saw people making things. This wasn’t food made by machines in a drab factory somewhere far away. It was made with a lot of pride by people in my neighborhood. I moved to Boone to attend Appalachian State, and started working at Stick Boy Bread Company. I noticed many of the same things that I had seen at Pasta & Provisions-that same commitment to quality, from the ingredients to the methods to caliber of the staff. It seemed logical that a town that loved pastries and great bread could use a pasta shop! Next came sandwiches, craft beer, and fine wine. I thought everything was set….until the space next door to us became available. A casual mention to two friends who had been thinking of opening a brewery led to us becoming the tasting room for Booneshine Brewing Company. On July 1, 2015 we poured the first pint of Booneshine IPA! Booneshine has since moved on to a much larger space, needing more room to produce fresh craft beer.

We are counter-service with waitstaff, so you order and pay at the counter BEFORE finding a table where we will serve you! Having everyone order and pay first means that our limited number of tables are not held up waiting for orders to be taken or checks to be brought out, so even if we are very busy, there WILL be a table available by the time you have ordered. Operating this way, it is very rare that we should ever have to wait for a table to open. For this reason we ask that you please do not reserve tables while the rest of your party is in line.

Hatched as a grand idea between sets at a late night gig, musicians and former band mates Andy Gibbon and Josh Gibbs decided they should provide the Asheville area with truly delicious, locally roasted, organic coffee.

After rolling up their sleeves and hammering out a solid plan, they settled on the cozy, yet world-class town of Black Mountain, North Carolina as their base of operations. From their coffee bar/roasting facility set up in an incredibly inviting 1950’s craftsman style home, they are now making their coffee available to the world!

Thirteen Pennies Café is housed inside the Mountain Home Thrift Store. It
offers breakfast and lunch items while providing training and hands-on job experience for youth in the culinary arts training track of Black Mountain Home for Children’s Apprenticeship Program. The café is named for the first financial gift made to the ministry in 1904.

The café offers Black Mountain Home Roast coffee along with breakfast and lunch items such as loaded biscuits, French toast, sandwiches, paninis, and amazing baked goods. The café’s signature coffee, a Honduras roast, is a single-origin, direct trade, specialty grade coffee grown at elevation with an excellent cupping score of 86. Download a book instantaneously. Bills can be viewed and paid (or ignored) with the click of a button. Order a cheeseburger from a person on the other side of a machine and it’s ready in under two minutes (if the line is short enough). There are few aspects of our lives that have been untouched by this ever-present supply of immediate gratification.

So it is no great mystery that BBQ, the ritual of cooking with fire and smoke, is such a highly sought-after prize. It is the driving source of endless competitions, timeless arguments over what is right and what is wrong, and innumerable quests to find the “very best version.” It is a simple matter, putting a metal box or grate over some fire and letting smoke do its work. It all started back in 1999 when we began working out of a little red trailer serving bbq at local festivals, on the roadside, and for private parties.
Over the next eight years, we just kept growing and growing until we realized we needed something bigger than our little red trailer.

The first Macado’s restaurant was opened in 1978 by Richard Macher in downtown Roanoke, Virginia. It soon became popular for its eclectic ambiance of cartoon, antique, and local nostalgic decor, as well as its wide array of hearty yet modestly-priced sandwiches, subs, and entrees.

Popular with the college crowd, the restaurant opened additional locations near Virginia Tech, Radford University, and Roanoke College. Locations were added at the rate of one or two per year, including those in neighboring West Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee.

Black Mountain Golf Course is located at the foot of the beautiful Black Mountain Range in Western North Carolina. The 6,215yd par 71 course has a front nine originally designed by Donald Ross and is home to the famous 747yd, par 6 17th hole, at one time the longest hole in the world.

konnichiwa was born of a desire to bring customers a taste of modern-day Japanese street food. We want people to think outside the bento box, try cultural favorites that are being served at the hottest corner spots in Tokyo. Or, make your meal the way you want it, using the Creation Station format to construct a custom dish of your liking. You can look forward to a continuously expanding menu along with limited time specials that will allow us to flex our culinary muscles.

The Manor House Estate was the elegant home of J. Luther Snyder, the most famous of Chetola’s owners. Snyder purchased Chetola Estate in 1926. Also known as “the Coca Cola King of the Carolinas,” Snyder’s wife held frequent celebrations and parties that were the talk of Blowing Rock in the 1930s and 1940s.

On July 28, 2012, Chetola officially opened Timberlake’s Restaurant in the historical building, with a menu inspired by world-renowned North Carolina artist and designer Bob Timberlake’s culinary favorites. The restaurant features three dining rooms, an intimate wine room and waterfront dining on the Patio. The charming and warmly outfitted Headwaters Pub is just inside Timberlake’s main entrance.

Bob Timberlake, who is known for creating things of exceptional artistry and imagination, used his deeply rooted love of food as the impetus behind the distinctive menu. From savory shrimp and salads of mountain-grown spinach, to pan-seared duck and roasted Carolina quail, each dish will be one worth savoring. Mouth-watering Angus bistro filets, seafood, poultry, vegetarian options and housemade desserts will also tempt palates of all tastes.
