Boone Saloon was born from a desperate need for a watering-hole that was geared for full grown adults. Sure the college kids would come – we are a college town after all. But, we needed a comfortable, clean place where conversation was revered, quality service and food was appreciated, and style was a heavy consideration.

We started with an old white oak tree that we carved out to be the 25 foot, live edge, bar. Then we tore down all the sheetrock and drop ceilings, ripped up the carpet, and let the building show itself. After we built the stage, built an outside covered deck and added our GameChanger Arcade we were ready to go.

At Café Violette, Chef Kyle Martin has created a menu inspired by the Mediterranean coast of France. Food that is rooted in the tradition of French cuisine is often accompanied by the fresh flavors of the sea. This region is home to the oldest cities and ports in France and its food has been influenced by neighboring trading partners for centuries. The ingredients and spices from Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and North Africa can all be found in this area and are  incorporated into France’s rich culinary history.

Thanks to the people of Black Mountain and all the visitors the business grew and expanded to a larger location in the same vicinity. Hard work, team work and dedication paid off.

We also get a lot of inspiration from Food Network and places we travel to, in and out of the country. The Manor House Estate was the elegant home of J. Luther Snyder, the most famous of Chetola’s owners. Snyder purchased Chetola Estate in 1926. Also known as “the Coca Cola King of the Carolinas,” Snyder’s wife held frequent celebrations and parties that were the talk of Blowing Rock in the 1930s and 1940s.

On July 28, 2012, Chetola officially opened Timberlake’s Restaurant in the historical building, with a menu inspired by world-renowned North Carolina artist and designer Bob Timberlake’s culinary favorites. The restaurant features three dining rooms, an intimate wine room and waterfront dining on the Patio. The charming and warmly outfitted Headwaters Pub is just inside Timberlake’s main entrance.

Bob Timberlake, who is known for creating things of exceptional artistry and imagination, used his deeply rooted love of food as the impetus behind the distinctive menu. From savory shrimp and salads of mountain-grown spinach, to pan-seared duck and roasted Carolina quail, each dish will be one worth savoring. Mouth-watering Angus bistro filets, seafood, poultry, vegetarian options and housemade desserts will also tempt palates of all tastes.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily, year-round in Timberlake’s Restaurant. In addition, you will find outstanding buffets on Mother’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and during special events such as Symphony by the Lake.

Kitchens are often described as gathering places, the heart of a home. We like to think of The Speckled Trout in a similar sense. Located in downtown Blowing Rock— at the corner of Main Street and Highway 221—  is the newly renovated and reinvented restaurant and bottle shop. We explore the roots of Appalachian food and beverage culture, and re-create it in our kitchen by preserving and reviving ingredients of our local heritage. Menus are more than a list of ingredients; they show how people live and what they value. And as the seasons change, so does our menu.

To accompany the celebration of our regional dishes, our beverage program focuses on terroir-driven libations. The term terroir evokes a sense of place, and in our shop this is evident in everything we do. The bottle shop emphasizes traditions of fermentation practices by offering some of the best “home-grown” beers and ciders around. I grew up in Charlotte, NC, and was lucky enough to have Pasta & Provisions in my neighborhood. As a child I was amazed by the fact that when you stopped by, you always saw people making things. This wasn’t food made by machines in a drab factory somewhere far away. It was made with a lot of pride by people in my neighborhood. I moved to Boone to attend Appalachian State, and started working at Stick Boy Bread Company. I noticed many of the same things that I had seen at Pasta & Provisions-that same commitment to quality, from the ingredients to the methods to caliber of the staff. It seemed logical that a town that loved pastries and great bread could use a pasta shop! Next came sandwiches, craft beer, and fine wine. I thought everything was set….until the space next door to us became available. A casual mention to two friends who had been thinking of opening a brewery led to us becoming the tasting room for Booneshine Brewing Company. On July 1, 2015 we poured the first pint of Booneshine IPA! Booneshine has since moved on to a much larger space, needing more room to produce fresh craft beer.

Maggie B’s is Weaverville’s first ever wine and specialty food store.   But, despite what most people think, Maggie B is not the owner. She is actually Elspeth and Andy’s 13-year old, yellow Labrador retriever. In her honor, we do offer dog parking outside, refreshments (water bowl), and doggie treats. So, if you’re just walking around downtown Weaverville, or getting ready to take your pooch on a hike, stop in and grab some treats for yourself and your four legged friend!

Maggie B’s sells wine, beer, meats, cheeses, wine accessories, and a little of everything else.  Sandwiches, salads, soup, and small plates are offered daily.  They also offer a great selection of wine and beer by the glass.  We carry wines from smaller vineyards that you are not going to find at the grocery store. The wines are from all over the world: South Africa, Argentina, France, New Zealand, and more. In 1955, two Georgia neighbors opened up a restaurant that would change the world. Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner were living in Avondale Estates, GA, when they decided to open a 24-hour, sit-down restaurant for their friends and neighbors, focused on people on both sides of the counter. In early 2008, Sam and Alyce Ratchford purchased the two-year-old Vidalia from their friend and former co-worker. They quickly focused the menu around North Carolina products, fresh local produce, and expanded the wine list. Vidalia quickly outgrew its original 45 seat capacity prompting an expansion in the winter of 2015. When Vidalia reopened, the Ratchford’s had added seventy-five additional seats, a screened-in, covered porch, a full bar and a wall of wine. Their mission to source locally and provide high-end North Carolina cuisine in a casual, upscale space remains today.

From obtaining our food products to hand-kneading dough, making bread daily and offering fresh food options, we focus on the ritual of taking life from the world around us and presenting it to you. This ritual of nourishment from farm to table is one that all Americans took part in until about 75 years ago.

To honor this tradition we follow a few simple rules as we prepare food for you. Whenever we can, we buy locally-grown, seasonal, organic produce and meats. We use farmers and farm cooperatives or family-run operations as our primary suppliers for our flowers, vegetables, fruits and herbs. We use feta and goat cheese from local creameries, brew Dynamite Roasting Company Coffee and carry local microbrews from around our region. We have a large garden that supplies us seasonally with fresh basil, edible flowers and herbs as well as greens, peppers, root vegetables and other produce. Every day we make homemade soups and breads for the day. You’ll also find homemade daily desserts from our FRESH chef’s and local confectioners’ creations. Each weekend we feature FRESH specials that highlight seasonal offerings from our local food purveyors and unique flavors of our chef’s culinary creativity.

At FRESH we offer an alternative to the processed food delivery system that has become the staple of the modern diet. We have kept everything original to the house as much as possible, which means our space is very unique and smaller than most restaurants you’ve probably been to – our kitchen is smaller than most residential kitchens! With such limited space, we run things a bit differently to be sure that you have a great time here! We are counter-service with waitstaff, so you order and pay at the counter BEFORE finding a table where we will serve you! Having everyone order and pay first means that our limited number of tables are not held up waiting for orders to be taken or checks to be brought out, so even if we are very busy, there WILL be a table available by the time you have ordered. Operating this way, it is very rare that we should ever have to wait for a table to open. For this reason we ask that you please do not reserve tables while the rest of your party is in line.

Before we packed up and left our home in New York, we had been head chefs at two of the highest-rated restaurants in the Hamptons on the eastern end of Long Island, Robert’s in Watermill and World Pie in Bridgehampton.  Yet, all the while that we were running our respective kitchens, we kept a small fire burning for the dream of opening our own idea of a great restaurant someday.  Our plan was to find the most promising, picturesque town in the country, where the people were varied, smart, good-looking, and hungry for the kind of genuine culinary thing we do.

Hoppy Trout Brewing Company is a brewpub located in Andrews, NC. We opened New Year’s Day of 2016, so we were literally the first brewery to open in NC in 2016. All our beer is brewed on premise which we sell in our pub with some self distribution in immediate area. We brew 1 BBL(barrel) batches at a time, 31 gallons, which classifies us as a nano brewery. We also offer a full-service pizza restaurant featuring a handmade Sicilian style brick oven.

The small batch approach to beer production allows us to take risks with flavors. We are constantly rotating our tap list with new experimental beers as well as maintaining a few flagships we try to always keep on tap. There is nothing we won’t put in beer. We have used the hottest peppers in the world, Himalayan sea salt, and even cake batter. We do our best to source local ingredients when available. We give a local farmer all our spent grain to feed his pigs.

The Best Cellar Restaurant in Blowing Rock, North Carolina was established in 1975. The original location was in a basement on Main Street, where previous owners sold soups, sandwiches, and new and used books. The name was derived from the fact that the restaurant sold books in a basement, hence The Best Cellar. Over the years, the menu evolved from sandwiches and soups to the freshest of meats and seafood.

The Best Cellar prides itself on having provided its customers with the finest of food, wine, and service for 30 years. All dishes and desserts are prepared each day on site.
