Hoppy Trout Brewing Company is a brewpub located in Andrews, NC. We opened New Year’s Day of 2016, so we were literally the first brewery to open in NC in 2016. All our beer is brewed on premise which we sell in our pub with some self distribution in immediate area. We brew 1 BBL(barrel) batches at a time, 31 gallons, which classifies us as a nano brewery. We also offer a full-service pizza restaurant featuring a handmade Sicilian style brick oven.
The small batch approach to beer production allows us to take risks with flavors. We are constantly rotating our tap list with new experimental beers as well as maintaining a few flagships we try to always keep on tap. There is nothing we won’t put in beer. We have used the hottest peppers in the world, Himalayan sea salt, and even cake batter. We do our best to source local ingredients when available. We give a local farmer all our spent grain to feed his pigs.

Steak, seafood & other American fare in a European-style inn with mountain views, fireplace & patio. The Alpen Restaurant and Bar in Beech Mountain North Carolina is part of the Beech Alpen Inn. The Inn was originally built by the Beech Mountain Developers in the 1970’s in a rustic style resembling the great old Inn’s of the European Alps. Since it’s original opening many great restaurants called the Beech Alpen Inn their home. In 2006 the new owners’ Steve, Jane & Fred took the idea further, enhancing the Inn with a new modern kitchen and a new restaurant addition the Mountain view room. The design was strictly guided by the rustic style of the old Inn. The original old Fireplace room has been restored and a cozy Bar was added. The modern Time was not left out. At Reid’s Café & Catering, we serve regional seafood, farm goods from our local friends, amazing coffee from Camp Roasters Coffee of Blowing Rock, as well as loose leaf teas and tisane from Bellocq Tea Atelier, with rustic handmade French pastries. We have all the things you need for lunch, dinner and in between–soups made to order, carefully crafted sandwiches, homemade sides and light, elegant salads, grilled whole fish, oysters on the half shell and hand crafted cocktails. Toward evenings, our emphasis on natural wines, sustainable, traditional, and with minimum chemical additives, compliment the Chefs’ choice of cured meats and cheeses. Reid’s Cafe features re-purposed barn wood, white concrete countertops from BDWG, tables from Big Oak Woodworks, succulent greenery and ferns by Callista Designs and LOVE. Colors are of dark sea and cloud, forest, stone, sky and sunset. The vivacious heart of the cafe resides in Jerry Cantwell’s paintings —exemplary compositions with colorways that resound and subject matter that is uncannily, but joyously soothing.

Dutch’s Daughter Restaurant began in 1984 at the local VFW. Owner Eileen Gideon named the restaurant “Dutch’s Daughter” in honor of her father Fred “Dutch” Onderdonk. Tim and Crystal Decker opened Smoky Mountain Bakers and Wood Fired Pizza in Roan Mountain, Tennessee in 2009. Family owned and operated, the couple took their artisan approach (refined for over a decade at their bakery in northern California) to create mouthwatering baked goods. Operating out of a renovated barn built in the mid-1900’s at the back of their property, Tim and Crystal offer a variety of specialty pastries made from scratch and fresh artisan breads and pizzas cooked in their wood fired brick oven, which was built by Tim with help from his sons and family friends.

We think the world is a better place with wings, a burger cooked to the right temperature, and a sandwich with house-made “anything they can think of” in it. Yes, the salads are good too. But it’s all about the rejuvenation of creativity and the soothing comfort that food provides when it’s made with the best intentions.
It was 2010, and the bar where I worked in Black Mountain was closing. The hardest part about it was not that I was losing a job; it was that I was losing my community gathering spot. My belief is that, above all else, community is what gives humans a sense of belonging and well-being, which leads to a solid sense of self. Community is what makes us whole. An important concept in urban design is what is known as the “Third Place.” Healthy communities are composed of First, Second, and Third Places. The First Place is your home — where you lay your head at night. The Second Place is your workplace — where you do the things you do. And the Third Place is where you form connections with others — where you can express your dreams, your thoughts, and your ideas with like-minded people. It is an anchoring spot for the community. For communities to be strong and healthy, the Third Place is vital.
Third Places are where people go because they know they will feel a sense of connection. In 2010, I was losing my Third Place. And I said to myself, “Well, if my community is losing a gathering place, I’m going to bring it back.” The Black Mountain Ale House opened on Feb 4, 2011. It was a bar built around community.
That community remains at the forefront. We have continued to grow around it, literally and figuratively, bringing in a larger kitchen and introducing a stronger variety of food offerings. Now renamed Black Mountain Kitchen + Ale House, we are a restaurant and bar — built around community.
The key ingredient to the menu is the table; not necessarily what’s on the plate. That’s why “kitchen” is such a fundamental word. The kitchen is the place that produces food to feed the body and delight the senses. The company is the reason for the kitchen in the first place.
Our guiding philosophy remains the same as it was back in February 2011: to provide a sense of community and belonging to every person who walks through the door. Some of the most meaningful life experiences happen in a conversation over a pint of beer or around a table breaking bread with others. We use feta and goat cheese from local creameries, brew Dynamite Roasting Company Coffee and carry local microbrews from around our region. We have a large garden that supplies us seasonally with fresh basil, edible flowers and herbs as well as greens, peppers, root vegetables and other produce. Every day we make homemade soups and breads for the day. You’ll also find homemade daily desserts from our FRESH chef’s and local confectioners’ creations. Each weekend we feature FRESH specials that highlight seasonal offerings from our local food purveyors and unique flavors of our chef’s culinary creativity.
At FRESH we offer an alternative to the processed food delivery system that has become the staple of the modern diet. Here, you will sit down to eat a meal together in the tradition of our parents and grandparents and taste the difference of food that is grown, artfully prepared and served by people who live right here and are part of our community.

There are few aspects of our lives that have been untouched by this ever-present supply of immediate gratification.
So it is no great mystery that BBQ, the ritual of cooking with fire and smoke, is such a highly sought-after prize. It is the driving source of endless competitions, timeless arguments over what is right and what is wrong, and innumerable quests to find the “very best version.” It is a simple matter, putting a metal box or grate over some fire and letting smoke do its work. But there is more to bbq than just cooking meat. Wherever one finds it, behind that pulled pork, sliced brisket, and blistered sausages is a preparation that requires time, patience, and a tremendous amount of love. BBQ is untouched by the hurry of the world. Since the discovery of fire from our ancestors on down, very little has been touched and, as is the case with the best of it, the tradition has not been touched at all. What was once necessity has become the ultimate luxury. A restaurant inside a house? Yes! We are located inside a charming old house that was built in 1904. We have kept everything original to the house as much as possible, which means our space is very unique and smaller than most restaurants you’ve probably been to – our kitchen is smaller than most residential kitchens! With such limited space, we run things a bit differently to be sure that you have a great time here! We are counter-service with waitstaff, so you order and pay at the counter BEFORE finding a table where we will serve you! Having everyone order and pay first means that our limited number of tables are not held up waiting for orders to be taken or checks to be brought out, so even if we are very busy, there WILL be a table available by the time you have ordered. Operating this way, it is very rare that we should ever have to wait for a table to open. For this reason we ask that you please do not reserve tables while the rest of your party is in line.

Our parents were born and raised in Cuba and unfortunately had to flee their beautiful homeland in 1960 when Castro’s communist regime came into power. They instilled in us their love for their Cuban culture and all that it encompassed–food, music, history, family.
As cousins, we grew up together in Miami, Florida enjoying our Cuban heritage. Destiny brought us all to North Carolina along with our desire to share this delicious and deeply loved cuisine with you. We are using family recipes that have been passed down through many generations.
The Café is more than a business to us–it is a tribute to our family members that cherished their Cuban culture and taught us what family & love is all about.
Black Mountain Golf Course is located at the foot of the beautiful Black Mountain Range in Western North Carolina. The 6,215yd par 71 course has a front nine originally designed by Donald Ross and is home to the famous 747yd, par 6 17th hole, at one time the longest hole in the world.
Black Mountain Golf Course is a unique, fun and down to earth golfing experience. Established back in 1929, the course is surrounded by some of North Carolina’s most spectacular mountain views. The course is located in the heart of historic Black Mountain just seventeen miles east of Asheville. Back in September of 2006, Ole & Elena Delatorre along with their 3 sons, Abraham, Alfredo and Daniel started renovating and old building that would become the family business. After 5 months of hard work it opened its doors to the public and was successful from day one. Thanks to the people of Black Mountain and all the visitors the business grew and expanded to a larger location in the same vicinity. Hard work, team work and dedication paid off.

Hatched as a grand idea between sets at a late night gig, musicians and former band mates Andy Gibbon and Josh Gibbs decided they should provide the Asheville area with truly delicious, locally roasted, organic coffee.
After rolling up their sleeves and hammering out a solid plan, they settled on the cozy, yet world-class town of Black Mountain, North Carolina as their base of operations. From their coffee bar/roasting facility set up in an incredibly inviting 1950’s craftsman style home, they are now making their coffee available to the world!

When Dorothy and Krista met over the summer of 2018, they had two things in common right off the bat: the love of baking and being from families of four sisters. While not all the sisters work at the bakery, our sisters inspire us! The employees you will meet at the bakery may not all be biological sisters, but we are all adopted sisters in this life – as we like to say.
Kilwin’s Chocolates, Fudge & Ice Cream opened in Black Mountain in May 2009 by Tom and Marcy Gallagher. This old-fashioned one-top confectionary shop has something for everyone: 8 flavors of hand-paddled fudge, 3 kinds of caramel corn, 3 kinds of brittle, chocolate-dipped treats, fine chocolates, caramel apples, pralines, gift boxes, sugar-free candy, cold and hot beverages, and 28 flavors of Original Recipe Ice Cream.
Many of these confections are made right in the store, and customers love watching the cook create them! You can get sundaes, malts, milkshakes, sodas and floats made from some of the best ice cream you’ve ever tasted! Over the next eight years, we just kept growing and growing until we realized we needed something bigger than our little red trailer.

Thirteen Pennies Café is housed inside the Mountain Home Thrift Store. It
offers breakfast and lunch items while providing training and hands-on job experience for youth in the culinary arts training track of Black Mountain Home for Children’s Apprenticeship Program. The café is named for the first financial gift made to the ministry in 1904.
The café offers Black Mountain Home Roast coffee along with breakfast and lunch items such as loaded biscuits, French toast, sandwiches, paninis, and amazing baked goods. The café’s signature coffee, a Honduras roast, is a single-origin, direct trade, specialty grade coffee grown at elevation with an excellent cupping score of 86. Coffee sales benefit our kids at BMH as well as an orphanage in Honduras where the coffee is grown. Double your impact!

Located in downtown Blowing Rock— at the corner of Main Street and Highway 221— is the newly renovated and reinvented restaurant and bottle shop. We explore the roots of Appalachian food and beverage culture, and re-create it in our kitchen by preserving and reviving ingredients of our local heritage. Menus are more than a list of ingredients; they show how people live and what they value. And as the seasons change, so does our menu.
To accompany the celebration of our regional dishes, our beverage program focuses on terroir-driven libations. The term terroir evokes a sense of place, and in our shop this is evident in everything we do. The bottle shop emphasizes traditions of fermentation practices by offering some of the best “home-grown” beers and ciders around. In addition, our wines highlight small producers from old world to new.

The Best Cellar Restaurant in Blowing Rock, North Carolina was established in 1975. The original location was in a basement on Main Street, where previous owners sold soups, sandwiches, and new and used books. The name was derived from the fact that the restaurant sold books in a basement, hence The Best Cellar. Over the years, the menu evolved from sandwiches and soups to the freshest of meats and seafood.
