I grew up in Charlotte, NC, and was lucky enough to have Pasta & Provisions in my neighborhood. As a child I was amazed by the fact that when you stopped by, you always saw people making things. This wasn’t food made by machines in a drab factory somewhere far away. It was made with a lot of pride by people in my neighborhood. I moved to Boone to attend Appalachian State, and started working at Stick Boy Bread Company. I noticed many of the same things that I had seen at Pasta & Provisions-that same commitment to quality, from the ingredients to the methods to caliber of the staff. It seemed logical that a town that loved pastries and great bread could use a pasta shop! Next came sandwiches, craft beer, and fine wine. I thought everything was set….until the space next door to us became available. A casual mention to two friends who had been thinking of opening a brewery led to us becoming the tasting room for Booneshine Brewing Company. On July 1, 2015 we poured the first pint of Booneshine IPA! Booneshine has since moved on to a much larger space, needing more room to produce fresh craft beer.

Hoppy Trout Brewing Company is a brewpub located in Andrews, NC. We opened New Year’s Day of 2016, so we were literally the first brewery to open in NC in 2016. All our beer is brewed on premise which we sell in our pub with some self distribution in immediate area. We brew 1 BBL(barrel) batches at a time, 31 gallons, which classifies us as a nano brewery. We also offer a full-service pizza restaurant featuring a handmade Sicilian style brick oven.
The small batch approach to beer production allows us to take risks with flavors. We are constantly rotating our tap list with new experimental beers as well as maintaining a few flagships we try to always keep on tap. There is nothing we won’t put in beer. We have used the hottest peppers in the world, Himalayan sea salt, and even cake batter. We do our best to source local ingredients when available. We give a local farmer all our spent grain to feed his pigs.
Puccini Restaurant is located in the historic 1818 Hinkle House which served as a Civil War hospital during the Battle at Folck’s Mill. Famous for its wood fired pizza and its hometown friendliness, diners can select from Puccini’s full lunch and dinner menu. Open Daily 11 am to 10 pm. There are few aspects of our lives that have been untouched by this ever-present supply of immediate gratification.
So it is no great mystery that BBQ, the ritual of cooking with fire and smoke, is such a highly sought-after prize. It is the driving source of endless competitions, timeless arguments over what is right and what is wrong, and innumerable quests to find the “very best version.” It is a simple matter, putting a metal box or grate over some fire and letting smoke do its work. But there is more to bbq than just cooking meat. Wherever one finds it, behind that pulled pork, sliced brisket, and blistered sausages is a preparation that requires time, patience, and a tremendous amount of love. Our parents were born and raised in Cuba and unfortunately had to flee their beautiful homeland in 1960 when Castro’s communist regime came into power. They instilled in us their love for their Cuban culture and all that it encompassed–food, music, history, family.
As cousins, we grew up together in Miami, Florida enjoying our Cuban heritage. Destiny brought us all to North Carolina along with our desire to share this delicious and deeply loved cuisine with you. We are using family recipes that have been passed down through many generations.

Kilwin’s Chocolates, Fudge & Ice Cream opened in Black Mountain in May 2009 by Tom and Marcy Gallagher. People love brunch. People love bakeries. So we did both. Located in the picturesque town of Black Mountain, NC. Open Oven Brunch and Bakery is serving up food made right. Benedicts topped with white wine rosemary hollandaise on homemade sourdough English muffins to sandwiches served on Artisan bread with a side of house cut fries. We do our best to provide antibiotic and hormone free meats, wild caught seafood, and baked goods using whole grain flour. We think the world is a better place with wings, a burger cooked to the right temperature, and a sandwich with house-made “anything they can think of” in it. Yes, the salads are good too. But it’s all about the rejuvenation of creativity and the soothing comfort that food provides when it’s made with the best intentions.
It was 2010, and the bar where I worked in Black Mountain was closing. The hardest part about it was not that I was losing a job; it was that I was losing my community gathering spot. My belief is that, above all else, community is what gives humans a sense of belonging and well-being, which leads to a solid sense of self. Community is what makes us whole. An important concept in urban design is what is known as the “Third Place.” Healthy communities are composed of First, Second, and Third Places. The First Place is your home — where you lay your head at night. The Second Place is your workplace — where you do the things you do. And the Third Place is where you form connections with others — where you can express your dreams, your thoughts, and your ideas with like-minded people. It is an anchoring spot for the community. For communities to be strong and healthy, the Third Place is vital.
Third Places are where people go because they know they will feel a sense of connection. In 2010, I was losing my Third Place. And I said to myself, “Well, if my community is losing a gathering place, I’m going to bring it back.” The Black Mountain Ale House opened on Feb 4, 2011. It was a bar built around community.
That community remains at the forefront. We have continued to grow around it, literally and figuratively, bringing in a larger kitchen and introducing a stronger variety of food offerings. Now renamed Black Mountain Kitchen + Ale House, we are a restaurant and bar — built around community.
The key ingredient to the menu is the table; not necessarily what’s on the plate. That’s why “kitchen” is such a fundamental word. The kitchen is the place that produces food to feed the body and delight the senses. The company is the reason for the kitchen in the first place.
Our guiding philosophy remains the same as it was back in February 2011: to provide a sense of community and belonging to every person who walks through the door. Some of the most meaningful life experiences happen in a conversation over a pint of beer or around a table breaking bread with others. The café’s signature coffee, a Honduras roast, is a single-origin, direct trade, specialty grade coffee grown at elevation with an excellent cupping score of 86. Before we packed up and left our home in New York, we had been head chefs at two of the highest-rated restaurants in the Hamptons on the eastern end of Long Island, Robert’s in Watermill and World Pie in Bridgehampton. Yet, all the while that we were running our respective kitchens, we kept a small fire burning for the dream of opening our own idea of a great restaurant someday. Our plan was to find the most promising, picturesque town in the country, where the people were varied, smart, good-looking, and hungry for the kind of genuine culinary thing we do.

Maggie B’s is Weaverville’s first ever wine and specialty food store. But, despite what most people think, Maggie B is not the owner. She is actually Elspeth and Andy’s 13-year old, yellow Labrador retriever. In her honor, we do offer dog parking outside, refreshments (water bowl), and doggie treats. So, if you’re just walking around downtown Weaverville, or getting ready to take your pooch on a hike, stop in and grab some treats for yourself and your four legged friend!
Maggie B’s sells wine, beer, meats, cheeses, wine accessories, and a little of everything else. Sandwiches, salads, soup, and small plates are offered daily. They also offer a great selection of wine and beer by the glass. We carry wines from smaller vineyards that you are not going to find at the grocery store. The wines are from all over the world: South Africa, Argentina, France, New Zealand, and more. You will also find a wide selection of organic wines, which can be beneficial for people who have problems with the preservatives in wine.
In our deli cooler we have Sunburst Trout dip, Jalapeno Pimento cheese, and deli meats. Our cheeses consist of items such as triple cream bries, Aged Gouda, Parmigiano Reggiano, and a wide variety of local selections. We are a full service cheese counter, so how ever much you need we can cut it.

Don’t forget, we offer free wine and beer tastings every week. Our tastings are informative, fun, and non-intimidating. Our customers enjoy our tastings because they feel comfortable in a place where usually you will see someone you know, or meet someone new!
We make nearly everything from scratch, we select our own produce from the WNC Farmer’s Market, and we grill the best burgers in town! We have six local draft beers as well as a great selection of bottled beer and wine. Chef’s Menu additions are ever-changing, and we have a kids menu too!
In 1955, two Georgia neighbors opened up a restaurant that would change the world. Joe Rogers Sr. and Tom Forkner were living in Avondale Estates, GA, when they decided to open a 24-hour, sit-down restaurant for their friends and neighbors, focused on people on both sides of the counter.
