The name was derived from the fact that the restaurant sold books in a basement, hence The Best Cellar. Kitchens are often described as gathering places, the heart of a home. We like to think of The Speckled Trout in a similar sense. We explore the roots of Appalachian food and beverage culture, and re-create it in our kitchen by preserving and reviving ingredients of our local heritage. We want people to think outside the bento box, try cultural favorites that are being served at the hottest corner spots in Tokyo. At Café Violette, Chef Kyle Martin has created a menu inspired by the Mediterranean coast of France. Food that is rooted in the tradition of French cuisine is often accompanied by the fresh flavors of the sea. This region is home to the oldest cities and ports in France and its food has been influenced by neighboring trading partners for centuries. The ingredients and spices from Spain, Italy, Greece, Turkey, and North Africa can all be found in this area and are incorporated into France’s rich culinary history.
The Manor House Estate was the elegant home of J. Luther Snyder, the most famous of Chetola’s owners. Snyder purchased Chetola Estate in 1926. Also known as “the Coca Cola King of the Carolinas,” Snyder’s wife held frequent celebrations and parties that were the talk of Blowing Rock in the 1930s and 1940s.
On July 28, 2012, Chetola officially opened Timberlake’s Restaurant in the historical building, with a menu inspired by world-renowned North Carolina artist and designer Bob Timberlake’s culinary favorites. The restaurant features three dining rooms, an intimate wine room and waterfront dining on the Patio. The charming and warmly outfitted Headwaters Pub is just inside Timberlake’s main entrance.
Bob Timberlake, who is known for creating things of exceptional artistry and imagination, used his deeply rooted love of food as the impetus behind the distinctive menu. From savory shrimp and salads of mountain-grown spinach, to pan-seared duck and roasted Carolina quail, each dish will be one worth savoring. Mouth-watering Angus bistro filets, seafood, poultry, vegetarian options and housemade desserts will also tempt palates of all tastes.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily, year-round in Timberlake’s Restaurant. In addition, you will find outstanding buffets on Mother’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and during special events such as Symphony by the Lake.
At Grilled Cheese Cafe we prepare internationally inspired gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches made to order. Some say that how you cook the sandwich doesn’t really matter. However, here at the Grilled Cheese Cafe we prepare each gourmet grilled cheese sandwich to order, using a panini press. This technique assures the bread is quickly and evenly browned, while the cheese is melted.
