In the most surprising of places you find the most surprising of things. In the charming mountain town of Andrews, North Carolina, nestled in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and guarding the entrance to the Nantahala Gorge, is the town’s first jail. It’s an old rock structure known as a Calaboose, and it is haunted with spirits. Heavenly craft-brewed beer and wine, to be exact.

We are lucky enough to be located in the heart of downtown Boone offering comfort foods from the diverse cultures that make up America. Foods have the unique power to heal ourselves and our planet. We are working towards supporting the well being of both at Wild Craft by choosing to serve wholesome and fresh ingredients sourced from local farmers. We use only styrofoam-free, plastic-free and biodegradable products for all of our take out dishes. We believe small steps make a big difference, so lets take them together!

I grew up in Charlotte, NC, and was lucky enough to have Pasta & Provisions in my neighborhood. As a child I was amazed by the fact that when you stopped by, you always saw people making things. This wasn’t food made by machines in a drab factory somewhere far away. It was made with a lot of pride by people in my neighborhood. I moved to Boone to attend Appalachian State, and started working at Stick Boy Bread Company. I noticed many of the same things that I had seen at Pasta & Provisions-that same commitment to quality, from the ingredients to the methods to caliber of the staff. It seemed logical that a town that loved pastries and great bread could use a pasta shop! Next came sandwiches, craft beer, and fine wine. I thought everything was set….until the space next door to us became available. A casual mention to two friends who had been thinking of opening a brewery led to us becoming the tasting room for Booneshine Brewing Company. On July 1, 2015 we poured the first pint of Booneshine IPA! Booneshine has since moved on to a much larger space, needing more room to produce fresh craft beer.

Mountain Grounds is located at the base of Grandfather Mountain, 4 miles south of downtown Banner Elk. We exclusively serve locally-roasted coffee from Hatchet Coffee Roasters in Boone. We also carry a rotating selection of fresh-baked pastries from Stick Boy Bread Co. and a large variety of loose leaf teas by Adagio.

Back in September of 2006, Ole & Elena Delatorre along with their 3 sons, Abraham, Alfredo and Daniel started renovating and old building that would become the family business. After 5 months of hard work it opened its doors to the public and was successful from day one. Thanks to the people of Black Mountain and all the visitors the business grew and expanded to a larger location in the same vicinity. Hard work, team work and dedication paid off.

Coach House Seafood and Steak is a family owned and operated restaurant. We pride ourselves in providing ample portions of quality seafood at reasonable prices. Bringing the sea to the mountains, the Coach House is open for lunch and dinner for indoor dining. We offer broiled as well as fried items, steaks and chicken – our fried salt and pepper catfish is the crowd favorite! Come experience what locals call their best kept secret.

Four Sisters Bakery is happy to be part of the wonderful community in Black Mountain, and provide home baked goods to our neighbors and those visiting our wonderful town.  Our connection to the Red Rocker Inn guarantees the  quality that you have come to expect over the years.

When Dorothy and Krista met over the summer of 2018, they had two things in common right off the bat: the love of baking and being from families of four sisters. While not all the sisters work at the bakery, our sisters inspire us! The employees you will meet at the bakery may not all be biological sisters, but we are all adopted sisters in this life – as we like to say.

Our restaurant is located right across the street from Appalachian State and we serve lunch and dinner seven days a week. We have been a part of the community for almost thirty years and believe that there’s no place quite like Boone!

Many of our special and entree menu items are made with local foods grown by the executive chef and other local farms. This farm to table restaurant in downtown Banner Elk is the newest creation of chef Nicole Palazzo. It features a rotating menu of fresh, seasonal local foods paired with local and regional wines in a slightly upscale atmosphere. Typical menu items range from steaks and seafood to chicken, beef and sushi. Particular favorites are the North Carolina rainbow trout, blackened chicken tacos and roasted beet salad with fried goat cheese.

Let’s just say, we saw this all-day breakfast thing years ago. We get that sometimes you want a burger or salad to start your day, an omelet for lunch, or brunch any day of the week. Here, you can have it all, whenever you want it. (Well, at least until we close.)

We also believe food should be both decadent and nutritious, uncompromisingly fresh, and served to order quickly with service that’s as satisfying as the menu. Sure, it’s a tall order, but it’s made us one of the fastest growing restaurants around.

Boone Saloon was born from a desperate need for a watering-hole that was geared for full grown adults. Sure the college kids would come – we are a college town after all. But, we needed a comfortable, clean place where conversation was revered, quality service and food was appreciated, and style was a heavy consideration.

We started with an old white oak tree that we carved out to be the 25 foot, live edge, bar. Then we tore down all the sheetrock and drop ceilings, ripped up the carpet, and let the building show itself. After we built the stage, built an outside covered deck and added our GameChanger Arcade we were ready to go.

In early 2008, Sam and Alyce Ratchford purchased the two-year-old Vidalia from their friend and former co-worker. They quickly focused the menu around North Carolina products, fresh local produce, and expanded the wine list. Vidalia quickly outgrew its original 45 seat capacity prompting an expansion in the winter of 2015. When Vidalia reopened, the Ratchford’s had added seventy-five additional seats, a screened-in, covered porch, a full bar and a wall of wine. Their mission to source locally and provide high-end North Carolina cuisine in a casual, upscale space remains today.

Black Mountain Golf Course is located at the foot of the beautiful Black Mountain Range in Western North Carolina. The 6,215yd par 71 course has a front nine originally designed by Donald Ross and is home to the famous 747yd, par 6 17th hole, at one time the longest hole in the world.

We want people to think outside the bento box, try cultural favorites that are being served at the hottest corner spots in Tokyo. The Pedalin’ Pig opened its Banner Elk location in 2014 bringing fresh gourmet flair to some smoky down south favorites. With an entrepreneur at the heart of the business, owner Ethan Anderson set his sights to the smokehouse on Highway 105 last spring. The concept was simple-combine gourmet ingredients with a splash of High Country style. The unique dining area is fit to sit 185 of your closest family, friends and sightseers. From obtaining our food products to hand-kneading dough, making bread daily and offering fresh food options, we focus on the ritual of taking life from the world around us and presenting it to you. Each weekend we feature FRESH specials that highlight seasonal offerings from our local food purveyors and unique flavors of our chef’s culinary creativity.

At FRESH we offer an alternative to the processed food delivery system that has become the staple of the modern diet. Here, you will sit down to eat a meal together in the tradition of our parents and grandparents and taste the difference of food that is grown, artfully prepared and served by people who live right here and are part of our community.

It is the driving source of endless competitions, timeless arguments over what is right and what is wrong, and innumerable quests to find the “very best version.” It is a simple matter, putting a metal box or grate over some fire and letting smoke do its work. But there is more to bbq than just cooking meat. Wherever one finds it, behind that pulled pork, sliced brisket, and blistered sausages is a preparation that requires time, patience, and a tremendous amount of love. Since the discovery of fire from our ancestors on down, very little has been touched and, as is the case with the best of it, the tradition has not been touched at all. What was once necessity has become the ultimate luxury. One can sit down at a bar or outside a shack or in their very own homes and enjoy a feast that took half a day to cook, a week to prepare, and a millennium to perfect.

Bella’s is a friendly, cozy cafe serving made-from-scratch breakfasts, along with New York-style deli sandwiches for lunch, seven days a week in the heart of Banner Elk.

The country breakfast at Bella’s is made with cage-free eggs, locally-sourced meats and fresh organic produce. The breakfast menu also features Belgian waffles and an array of omelettes. Some noted items on lunch menu include: hot pastrami on pumpernickel rye, corned beef, roasted brisket sandwiches, Ruben sandwiches and homemade chili.

The Manor House Estate was the elegant home of J. Luther Snyder, the most famous of Chetola’s owners. Snyder purchased Chetola Estate in 1926. Also known as “the Coca Cola King of the Carolinas,” Snyder’s wife held frequent celebrations and parties that were the talk of Blowing Rock in the 1930s and 1940s.

On July 28, 2012, Chetola officially opened Timberlake’s Restaurant in the historical building, with a menu inspired by world-renowned North Carolina artist and designer Bob Timberlake’s culinary favorites. The restaurant features three dining rooms, an intimate wine room and waterfront dining on the Patio. The charming and warmly outfitted Headwaters Pub is just inside Timberlake’s main entrance.

Bob Timberlake, who is known for creating things of exceptional artistry and imagination, used his deeply rooted love of food as the impetus behind the distinctive menu. From savory shrimp and salads of mountain-grown spinach, to pan-seared duck and roasted Carolina quail, each dish will be one worth savoring. Mouth-watering Angus bistro filets, seafood, poultry, vegetarian options and housemade desserts will also tempt palates of all tastes.

Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served daily, year-round in Timberlake’s Restaurant. In addition, you will find outstanding buffets on Mother’s Day, Easter Sunday, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and during special events such as Symphony by the Lake.
