For over three decades this establishment at the cross roads of state routes 105 & 184 has welcomed locals, visitors, newcomers, and students alike…and all have been made to feel at home. Through over 120 passing seasons this gathering place has become as integral to the landscape as Grandfather Mountain itself.
We are proud to present a modern re-imaging of this “High Country” tradition: “Highlander’s Grill & Tavern!” Whether you hail from the coast, the mountains, the north, the south, the east or the west, no matter who you are or where you are from…. When You Are Here You Are A Highlander!
Hoppy Trout Brewing Company is a brewpub located in Andrews, NC. We opened New Year’s Day of 2016, so we were literally the first brewery to open in NC in 2016. All our beer is brewed on premise which we sell in our pub with some self distribution in immediate area. We brew 1 BBL(barrel) batches at a time, 31 gallons, which classifies us as a nano brewery. We also offer a full-service pizza restaurant featuring a handmade Sicilian style brick oven.
The small batch approach to beer production allows us to take risks with flavors. We are constantly rotating our tap list with new experimental beers as well as maintaining a few flagships we try to always keep on tap. There is nothing we won’t put in beer. We have used the hottest peppers in the world, Himalayan sea salt, and even cake batter. We do our best to source local ingredients when available. We give a local farmer all our spent grain to feed his pigs.
Back in September of 2006, Ole & Elena Delatorre along with their 3 sons, Abraham, Alfredo and Daniel started renovating and old building that would become the family business. After 5 months of hard work it opened its doors to the public and was successful from day one. Thanks to the people of Black Mountain and all the visitors the business grew and expanded to a larger location in the same vicinity. Hard work, team work and dedication paid off.

Captain Raleigh Bender was a C&O Canal boatman during the 1800’s, and proprietor of this fine tavern. Since 1936, Captain Bender’s Tavern has fed the hungry, quenched the thirsty, and served loyally, the historic community of Sharpsburg, Maryland. Today we are the best restaurant and bar in Sharpsburg and are a perfect meeting spot for locals, C&O Canal and Antietam Battlefield visitors, and Shepherdstown students.

Tim and Crystal Decker opened Smoky Mountain Bakers and Wood Fired Pizza in Roan Mountain, Tennessee in 2009. Family owned and operated, the couple took their artisan approach (refined for over a decade at their bakery in northern California) to create mouthwatering baked goods. Operating out of a renovated barn built in the mid-1900’s at the back of their property, Tim and Crystal offer a variety of specialty pastries made from scratch and fresh artisan breads and pizzas cooked in their wood fired brick oven, which was built by Tim with help from his sons and family friends.

We have kept everything original to the house as much as possible, which means our space is very unique and smaller than most restaurants you’ve probably been to – our kitchen is smaller than most residential kitchens! With such limited space, we run things a bit differently to be sure that you have a great time here! We are counter-service with waitstaff, so you order and pay at the counter BEFORE finding a table where we will serve you! Having everyone order and pay first means that our limited number of tables are not held up waiting for orders to be taken or checks to be brought out, so even if we are very busy, there WILL be a table available by the time you have ordered. Operating this way, it is very rare that we should ever have to wait for a table to open. For this reason we ask that you please do not reserve tables while the rest of your party is in line.
